Song: Gravestone

It's another one of those. It's what you make it.

Dear God
Rest in peace
Your gravestone still speaks to me almost as though you were here

Dear God
You've gone away
Let me tell you the tale of your people - I pray

There's the temple
Solomon's tomb
It's been emptied of thought and of peace and of wisdom and charity

They've all fled
There's nothing left
Why'd you put me here, stuck here, I'm called but I just want to leave

I am watched
I am tried
Duplicitous, serpentine words
Caress their mouths and their hearts
They are whoring your corpse and the blood stains their lips -
May I ask?

Dear God,
Where did you go?
I was taught resurrection - hope curtsied and left long ago

Dear God
That temple is strong
It won't burn, it won't crumble, I've tried, but I just don't know how

Your Ark
Is still quite intact
It is guarded with vigilant conscience and fear and stupidity

We are taught
That it is divine
But my God, here your body lies limp in my arms -
And for this?

I am watched
I am tried
Duplicitous, serpentine words
Caress their mouths and their hearts
They are whoring your corpse and the blood stains their lips
Why even ask?

God is dead
I need to mourn
My life is slipping like sand through my fingers - it is yours, not mine

If my personal's political
The Martyr is here and its Spirit survived this

I am watched
I am tried
Duplicitous, serpentine words
Caress their mouths and their hearts
They are whoring my corpse and the blood stains their lips
Just as you asked
